Illinois tornado claim - state has good consumer protections

Went through a tornado claim in central Illinois and wanted to share that the state actually has pretty good insurance consumer protections. When my insurer was slow, I learned about the Illinois Insurance Claims Practices Act.

Insurers have to acknowledge claims within 15 days, respond to communications within 30 days, and pay undisputed amounts promptly. Filing a complaint with the Illinois DOI actually lit a fire under my insurer. Check out 215 ILCS 5/154.6 if youre having delays.
