Hurricane Ian claim finally settled - 18 months later

Just wanted to update everyone - my Hurricane Ian claim from September 2022 finally settled in March 2024. Total loss on the house in Fort Myers.

What worked: hired a public adjuster (yes they take 10% but I got 40% more than initial offer), documented EVERYTHING, and filed a complaint with FL DFS when they missed deadlines. The new assignment of benefits reforms made things harder but not impossible.

Final settlement was $380k on a policy with $400k dwelling coverage. Not perfect but livable.
