Hurricane Florence claim - what I wish Id known

Its been years but wanted to share Florence lessons for NC homeowners. We were in Wilmington and flooded badly.

Things I wish Id known: 1) NC law limits deductibles for hurricane damage to 5% of dwelling coverage. 2) You can request mediation through the NC DOI if claim is disputed. 3) "Anti-concurrent causation" clauses are a thing - if wind and flood both cause damage, they might try to pay neither. 4) Keep every piece of communication in writing. We eventually got fair settlement but it took 18 months and a lawyer.
